About Yaron Eliav

Yoran_EliavA faculty member at the University of Michigan, Yaron Eliav is an associate professor for rabbinic literature and Jewish history of late antiquity. Since 2000, he has instructed on Roman Mediterranean history, ancient Judaism, and other near eastern studies topics. He also serves as undergraduate academic advisor for students majoring in subjects ranging from Biblical studies to modern Hebrew. Published a decade ago, Yaron Eliav’s first book God’s Mountain: The Temple Mount in Time, Space, and Memory earned multiple awards at the national level. The Association of American Publishers selected it as recipient of the 2005 Theology and Religious Studies award.

Dr. Eliav has lectured at more than three-dozen institutions spanning the globe. Among the venues he has given talks at are the State University of Moscow and the Getty Museum in Los Angeles. From 2003 to 2009, he served as secretary of the International Lecture Series at the University of Michigan. The series focused on Judaism and Christianity in the Roman world. Yaron Eliav is active with the World Congress of Jewish Studies and the Society of Biblical Literature.
